Chisholm has changed the name of our annual event from Career Practitioner Seminar to Chisholm Youth Seminar as this seminar has been extended to cater for all our stakeholders, particularly those who work with youth. This includes Career Practitioners and Coordinators, Welfare Officers, Pathways staff, School Year Level Coordinators, Home Educators, LLENs, Councils, Special Schools, Community Workers and more.
This seminar provides our stakeholders with the opportunity to learn more about Chisholm including an overview of our courses (including the free TAFE courses), higher education and foundation courses, services and facilities that are offered to support our students. We may also invite external guest speakers to talk about topical items including labour market trends, services to youth, student learning disabilities, dyslexia as well as providing great networking opportunities and more.
The Chisholm Youth Seminar is being held on Wednesday 20 March 2019 at Bunjil Place.
We are pleased to announce our guest speaker Grainne Cleary. Grainne will be speaking about dyslexia at our youth seminar.
Grainne was born in Ireland and throughout her school life was told she was a failure and that she would never get a degree due to her dyslexia. Grainne was often reminded that she was “too stupid to go to university” and was made to feel ashamed of her dyslexia. She will be talking to us about her journey and how a vocational education as helped her get to where she is today, a scientist with a PHD.
You can hear more about Grainne and her journey by listening to her audio recording: Being a scientist with dyslexia.
