Short Stories Course
11:30am-12:30pm.
$95 total.
In these 9 sessions, we will look at some of the most famous short stories to this day. These sessions are designed to have something for all students, and anyone interested in literature should greatly enjoy these classes.
Throughout this course, we will look at what makes a short story great. Additionally, there will be opportunities to develop writing for those interested as well. I will provide writing prompts each week that you can follow throughout the sessions, and I can provide feedback if you so desire. For those who want to simply follow along and learn, this is entirely welcome as well!
The short stories we will look at include “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe, “The Open Window” by Saki, “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry, “The Lady or the Tiger” by Frank R. Stockton, “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, and “The Monkey’s Paw” by W.W. Jacobs, as well as looking at Aesop’s Fables and Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes.
When: 11:30 am to 12:30 pm Wednesdays 24 July to 18 September. Total 9 sessions.
Where: Online via Zoom.
How much: $95.
Who: Any student interested in literature. Three stories have more mature themes but will be accompanied with warnings for parental guidance. Classes are designed to be accessible without needing to read the stories.
