Notice of Disallowance Motion

The Liberal Nationals have given notice of a disallowance motion in the Legislative Council and reads:

MRS PEULICH — To move —
That in accordance with section 5.10.2(5) of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 the following clauses of the Education and Training Reform Regulations 2017 be disallowed —
(1) 72(2);
(2) 72(3);
(3) 72(4);
(4) 72(5)(c)(ii);
(5) 72(5)(c)(iii);
(6) 73;
(7) 79; and
(8) 82(3).”

The disallowance motion is partial. If passed, the 2017 Regulations will take effect on 1/1/2018 without:

  • Learning Plans and resource lists.
  • The VRQA’s ability to deny registration.
  • The requirement to register by 30 Nov.
  • The requirement for children to attend school while awaiting registration.
  • The requirement to provide additional information if requested.

There is now time for MPs to consider it before the debate.

The debate needs to take place within 12 sitting days of the notice. Available dates are:

  • 23 August
  • 6 September
  • 20 September

The Liberals media release is available here.

The motion requires sufficient support from cross-benchers for it to succeed.
