Your kid’s next adventure begins here! Discover how imagined worlds become tangible, how connections & meaning are forged within these worlds, & how the boundaries of these vibrant & immersive games are expanded by those that play them.
This playable exhibition explores concepts such as characterisation, representation, design, computational thinking, analysis & play, whilst fostering critical and creative thinking.
Spanning over 50 years of play, Game Worlds features more than 30 videogames from the 1970s to today, with 44 playable moments alongside original builds, rare design materials & hands-on prototypes you won’t find anywhere else.
Discover four new microgames made exclusively for ACMI by Australian developers – from nostalgic dial-ins to playful perspective shifts. & enjoy moments from fan favourites like: Minecraft, Final Fantasy XIV, The Elder Scrolls, SimCity, Stardew Valley, World of Warcraft, The Sims, Neopets, and the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong.
A free pre-exhibition talk is also available for kids aged 9y-16y. In this session, an ACMI educator will:
- Delve into some of the ideas, themes & videogame worlds explored in the exhibition
- Explore with kids how game worlds are forged & often remolded by those that play them, using child-friendly examples from the exhibition
