Kids/Teen Face Painting Course

🌟 Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in the kids/teens face painting course! This is an 8-week creative journey designed to teach kids the art of face painting from the ground up, learning techniques not just designs.

Classes are small, hands-on, and fun! Held at my home in Morphett Vale, I offer a supportive learning environment where every child gets attention and encouragement.

If you have any questions, please call or text me on 0448 783 895.

👶 Who It’s For

This workshop is designed for kids aged 9–16, but younger children are welcome if you feel they can keep up with the class. Your child should be able to:

Engage with the lesson content

Collaborate with their peers (as they will be painting each other)

The class is not designed for adults. If you have a teen older than 16 who is still interested, feel free to reach out and we can chat – I may offer an adult class in the same format in the near future if there is enough interest.

🎓 Curriculum Overview

Each week focuses on different skills or designs. Here is an example course outline, however this may change depending on the class’s needs and skills. Each class builds on skills learnt in the previous classes, with the first two classes being essential to all the others.

  1. Intro & Elements 1: Dots, teardrops, petals, tiger stripes, stars. How to hold/load a brush.
  2. Basic/double-dipped flowers.
  3. Intro & Elements 2: Swirls, cheetah spots, mandalas, hearts, spider, cross hatching, how to load/use a sponge.
  4. Butterfly Design
  5. Spiderman Design
  6. Tiger DesignPrincess + Dolphin
  7. Batman Design
  8. Rainbow + Unicorn

We focus on mastering the basics first, then move on to full designs. Learning this way empowers your child to paint anything they can imagine, as they’ll have all the techniques and brush strokes needed to create their own compositions. This approach gives them creative freedom, rather than limiting them to copying specific designs. We also explore composition and colour theory, and students are encouraged to add their own flair and style to everything they create.

Participants will paint each other (or my kids if numbers are uneven).

💲 Cost & Materials

Workshop Fee: $25 per lesson (total fee for 8 lessons $200)

Starter Kit: $35 (sold at cost price)

You can pay upfront or week by week, but full payment for each week must be made prior to the class. Cash or bank transfer both accepted.

Missed classes are non-refundable and cannot be made up later, as each session builds on the previous one, so it’s important that your child attends all scheduled classes to get the most out of them.

Starter Kit Includes: All professional-grade materials needed for class and home practice. This includes 10 face paint colours, brushes, sponges, a cloth and a spray bottle, all for you to keep. I will have other supplies (glitter, one strokes, water tubs, baby wipes, mirrors) here to use, but they aren’t part of the kit – this was to keep costs down for parents, as they aren’t essential.

I use and recommend TAG face paints (or equivalent professional face paints – no craft store paints). If your child already has their own gear, please check with me to make sure it matches the class needs.

Want to upgrade their starter kit over time? I can recommend reputable local and online suppliers.

📅 What to Bring

Comfy clothing (with sleeves/pants that can roll up so you can practice on your arms and legs)

Something with a camera if you want to take photos of your work

Drink bottle (optional, I’ll have water and cups here)

Open mind & curious spirit!

All lesson tools are provided in the kit or to use whilst here. Students also get printed handouts each week.

About Me

I’m Dani, and I’ve been face painting for over 10 years and teaching adults for 5. I’ve got a lifetime of art experience, some formal teaching training, and a background as an SSO and youth mentor.

I’m a certified Interplay Facilitator, and passionate about trauma-informed, inclusive teaching. I hold a current RAN and Working With Children clearance, and I bring warmth, care, and a heap of encouragement to every class.

🚗 Can I Stay?

If your child needs you to stay, that’s completely okay — but this is a kids-only class, so your role is to be their support person, not an active student. If your child is ready to be dropped off, that’s preferred due to space limitations! One of my children likes me to stay at things for the first 15 minutes or so – if that’s what your child needs, I get it!

🤔 FAQs

My child has never painted before – is this okay?

Absolutely! No experience is needed. We start with the basics—how to hold a brush, load paint, and build techniques from the ground up.

My child is really shy – will they be okay?

Yes! I keep class sizes small so each child feels seen and supported. I foster a kind, inclusive space where children can go at their own pace, and I always meet them where they’re at.

Will they be painting on each other? Is that hygienic?

Yes, children will take turns painting one another (or my kids, if we have uneven numbers). I follow strict hygiene practices: fresh water for each child, clean sponges, and sanitized brushes. I also teach them important face painting hygiene practices.

What happens if we miss a class?

Unfortunately, I can’t offer makeup sessions due to the small class sizes. But your child will still receive the handouts and can continue practicing at home using their kit.

Will you share photos of my child?

Only if you’ve given permission. The enrolment form lets you choose whether or not you’re happy for photos to be used for social media or promotions. It’s totally optional and always respected.

Can siblings share a kit?

Yes! Siblings are welcome to share a kit if they’re attending the same class. Just let me know when enrolling so I can adjust the supply list accordingly.

Is the paint safe for sensitive skin?

Yes, I only use professional-grade, skin-safe face paints and glitters designed specifically for use on skin. If your child has allergies or sensitivities, please let me know, we can patch test if needed.

Do we need to buy anything else for the class?

Everything they need is included in the starter kit. If you’d like to build up a larger kit over time, I can help guide you on what to buy and where to get it.

I’m worried about the cost of the starter kit — is it really necessary?

I completely understand! Quality comes at a cost unfortunately, but I’ve done everything I can to keep the price as low as possible. The kit is sold at my cost price, with no profit added. It’s a small but high-quality set that includes everything your child needs to participate in class and to practice confidently at home. I want to make sure each student has the right tools to succeed without breaking the bank.

Why can’t we just use craft paints or acrylics?

Craft paints, acrylics, or cheap face paints might seem like a budget-friendly option, but they’re not designed for skin and can cause irritation, poor results, and frustration. Professional face paints (like the ones in the kit) are skin-safe, vibrant, easy to work with, and give your child the best chance to succeed and enjoy the process. Using the right tools makes a huge difference!
