With ‘old trades and science theme’
Come join the annual home school migration to Bimbi Park for heaps of fun, friends, adventure, old crafts, learning and wildlife.
Bimbi Park is in Cape Otway ( centre of the great ocean road) nestled in magnificent forest, beaches, secluded bays and spectacular coastlines. Sheltered amongst tall manna gums filled with koalas and possums and far away from the wearing noises of towns and traffic.
OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES DETAILS
Daily activities will be written on a whiteboard at camp kitchen daily.
Optional activities planned for the week will include…
( please note none of these are booked with the park. They will be booked at camp with the people running them. Don’t stress there will be heaps of spots😊)
There will be a meet and greet with free sausage sizzle ( sponsored by HEN ) on the first night at camp kitchen starting at 6:30-7pm ish. A great chance to come and meet new homeschoolers and catch up with old mates. All details of activities and info will be shared here.
(There will be limited options for vego and dietary needs.)
There will be a free stuff/ swap table at the camp kitchen for anyone wanting to rehome some toys, books, clothes etc.
SCIENCE /DINOSAUR ACTIVITIES 😃
This year we will be joined by the amazing Mike amd Pippa Cleeland!!!
Mike will be running various workshops on dinosaurs and showing us real live prints he discovered ( when he found a new species of dinosaur), geology and astronomy ( with amazing telescopes 😆)
ART WORKSHOPS
Pip the acclaimed artist will be running various art workshops throughout camp. ( further details to come)
BLACKSMITHING WORKSHOPS
This will be onsite with small groups working with an expert blacksmith to create their choice of take home metal work direct from a forge made and maintained by themselves. Small tools, jewellery, trinkets. Suitable for most ages ( with parental help for young ones). Bookings will be direct with the instructor at camp. There will be 2 x 2-3hour workshops a day Tues, wed, thurs… 10:30 – 12:30 ish, 2:00- 4:00 ish. Murray will work with your kids as long as is needed/ wanted to complete what they are wanting to do. He isn’t always running on time but is awesome with kids and will give them all the one on one time they need with his amazing patience and calm energy. He is the real deal master tradesman. The meeting point will be at the rotunda near the playground where you can meet Murray and add your kids name to an appropriate time slot. There will be 8 small forges with 2 kids per forge working together (16 kids per session). Adult supervision will be required for kids 12 and under. Cost will be $40/ person for the first person then $30 for each additional kid. cash only. There may be an advanced session on Thursday.
Bush Tanning and leatherwork
Bookings will be direct with the amazing bush tanner ( who learnt the trade with First Nations inAlaska). Once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the best in this almost forgotten trade.
Again this will be onsite ( at a tiny house) and suitable for most ages ( including adults)
Josh will be at camp Tuesday and run a series of workshops. There will be part 1 in the morning and part 2 in the arvo to allow everyone to have a go. He can have 10-15 in each workshop (parents/ caregivers can support a child/ participant if needed at no cost). Session times will be 9am-10am, 10am-11am, 11am-12pm…… price includes the afternoon workshop for learning how to soften and other instructions for your hide 1-2pm, 2-3pm, and 3-4pm. He will also have scrapers for sale $50 each and leather balms , small tin $20 and large tin $30.
The rabbit tanningworkshops will involve being supplied with a pelt, learning how to scrape and tan a rabbit skin. He will also talk about the different tanning methods with samples. It will be $30pp. Or $50 for 2 in the same family. Children under the age of 8 will need a parent/ guardian with them (those not tanning and supporting a child are FREE).
At the end of the workshop you will take home your very own leather pelt to keep and the knowledge ( that Josh has learnt over his lifetime) of how to tan and treat leather for the rest of your days 😃. Josh is amazing and such a great inspiration for kids and adults alike 👍🏽. We are very lucky he on board.
Leather
There will be pop-up leather bracelet making sessions. Children and adults will have the opportunity to make their own unique bracelet using embossing techniques and an exclusive Bimbi camp ink stamp creating the perfect camp souvenir. $15 each. Appropriate for all ages.
Outdoor cinema (free) tue/wed night depending on weather.
We plan to have fish and chip night onsite Wednesday night… where you order your fresh, locally caught, fish/ seafood and pick it up when it’s ready. Cash/ card. ( prepare yourself as it’s the best I’ve Eva had!). Please note- This is dependent on finding enough staff.
We will have a pizza night onsite Thursday night… select your choice of toppings and watch as your pizza is cooked in the outdoor stone fired oven ready for you to enjoy ( can cater for GF, DF and many dietary requirements, or cook a pizza you have prepared yourself in the oven). You just pay them for what you want directly when you order. Cash/ card.
Thursday night ( last night) 7 pm
To finish the week on a high will be the awesome Bush Dance under the stars with the amazing Ken Hooke.
Dig out your flanny and straw hat and prepare for the hoe down! a night of fun for all ages.
Paid direct to Ken on the night 7/person or $15/ family ( cash/ card)
There are so many free activities including; free mini golf, movie night at the outdoor cinema, table tennis, indoor board games and fuzball, puzzles, liabrary, lounge with wood fire, bike riding track, fire pits, marshmallow cooking, koala watching, walking the amazing great ocean road, dinosaur fossil hunting, beach, tree climbing, kite flying, nerf wars, cops and robbers etc… Limited only by your imagination 😊
( no need to book these. There will be plenty of opportunity for everyone😊)

There is nearby Otway light house to explore ( entry cost)

There is a fantastic camp kitchen with plenty of fridge space etc. fresh water on site. Amazing facilities ( tokens needed for showers that can be bought at office on entry)
