HEN is thrilled to offer members the opportunity to be part of MoAD NSW’s annual touring exhibition “Behind the Lines”, all about political cartoons – a fantastic resource for both civics and media literacy education.
Kids will participate in a fully facilitated workshop, including collaborative, hands-on activities to unpack the role of political cartoons and the techniques used to convey meaning. They will develop their media literacy skills and explore themes of bias, persuasion, and how freedom of expression is exercised within our democracy.
Kids will:
- explore the role of the media in our democracy
- build media literacy skills by examining current political cartoons (viewed as a pop up ‘art gallery’)
- construct a cartoon to consolidate their skills (with paper & pencil)
- consider issues they are passionate about and how they can create positive change.
After the event, families can visit the Queen Victoria market, &/or have a play with new friends at the Flagstaff gardens playground.
Age & Price:
- $10 per child. This event is aimed at kids in Grade 5 – Year 8 (9y-14y). At least one child per family must be aged 8y-15y
- Young siblings (under 6y free ($10 per child). Young siblings must sit with their adult & cannot disrupt the session
- Adults free: limit of one adult per family
