Beauty of mathematics : Phi and the Fibonacci sequence

February 6

1pm to 3pm

Suitable for ages 7 and over, families welcome

$10 per student

The Golden Ratio, often called Phi or the Golden Mean, is a number with fascinating mathematical properties that make it unique. Found in the DNA of all living organisms and even in the movements of the stock market, this ratio has been used for centuries by artists, designers, and architects to create beauty. But it’s not just a number—it’s part of the very fabric of life.

The Fibonacci Sequence, closely tied to the Golden Ratio, is a number sequence found throughout nature, especially in plants. In this session, we’ll explore the connections between these beautiful numbers and their presence in the world around us.

In this session, your child will:

Discover the Golden Ratio: Understand its unique properties and its appearances in nature, architecture, and art.

Explore the Fibonacci Sequence: See how this sequence forms spirals and patterns in plants and other living organisms.

Create Your Own Fibonacci Spiral: Draw a mathematically accurate spiral and see how the sequence unfolds in real life.

Linking Math to Nature: Discuss how the Golden Ratio and Fibonacci Sequence help explain the beauty and patterns we see in the world.

This session is ideal for kids who are curious about nature, art, and the surprising ways math shapes the world around us!

In this session, your child will:

Discover the Flower of Life: Learn about its significance in various cultures and its connection to nature and geometry.

Explore Platonic Solids: Uncover the mysteries of these five perfect shapes that form the foundation of all geometry.

Create Your Own Flower of Life: Draw a mathematically accurate Flower of Life pattern and see the geometry unfold.

Linking Geometry and Nature: Understand how these shapes appear in nature, architecture, and art.
