A family camp located on Nukunu land in beautiful Melrose in the southern Flinders ranges. Melrose is mountain bike central, with approx 80km of single track trails in the foothills of Mount Remarkable.The trails take you into some truly special Australian landscapes and are spectacular and fun! The trail design incorporates a passionate love for nature, dirt, tranquility and adrenaline. Families can also enjoy nearby walks and visit the the Melrose Museum with an optional ghost tour.The camp will be located at the Melrose Caravan Park, with additional optional activities including mountain biking (guided and training sessions available – see below), Melrose museum tour and picnic, after dark history ghost tour, or choose your own adventure to explore the beautiful region.
Families will need to book your required accomodation directly with the Caravan Park Ph 86662060- options include powered or unpowered sites and a variety of cabin options. Unpowered sites are all unallocated, and we have reserved powered grass sites 1-7 next to the pump tracks so that we can all be together. There is a 10% discount on offer for our group. Mountain biking activities will be provided by Over the Edge Sports. High grade well maintained mountain bikes can be hired for $65 per day directly with the shop, however people are welcome to bring your own bikes. Please note though, that prior to going out on the trails, the shop/guide will need to check over the bikes for safety and suitability and if not suitable a bike will need to be hired. We have tentatively scheduled 4 MTB skills sessions so far. Monday and Tuesday morning 10am-12pm there will be 2 groups, for beginners / intermediate / younger kids, with older / advanced kids / teens in the afternoon 1-3pm. It is important that bikes are fit for purpose and if you bring your own bike and it is deemed by the instructors to be inadequate for the trails, participants will either need to hire one, or relinquish their place.
For those not so into mountain biking we plan a tour and picnic day at the Melrose Museum, date TBC. If you haven’t done it before we can highly recommend a trip on the heritage Pichi Richi Railway whilst in the region. Trips are available Sunday 19th May, and Saturday 25th May.
